If you’ve ever wondered how people create their own custom postage stamps, you’ve come to the right place. We’ll give you a step by step overview of the process of how you can purchase custom postage online!
While there are several places where you can create custom postage stamps, this tutorial will show the steps from minted.com. To begin, you’ll need to decide what you want on your custom stamp – an engagement photo or your initials or whatever design you like. If you are choosing a photo, make sure you choose one with a close up view. When you’re designing the stamp, the preview will look large on your computer – but the actual stamp is only 1.56″ X 1.25″. If you select the stamp below, it will take you to a page where you can upload your own photo.
Find your favorite photo! Once you upload your photo, you’ll be able to zoom in, rotate and move the photo around to fit the frame the way you like it. Auto Enhance is automatically set to on – but you can turn it off if you don’t want it. If you have professional or retouched photos, they recommend you turn auto enahance off.
Once you decide which version of the photo you like, you can select the value of your stamp. Currently there are three values: First Class (1 ounce letter at 55 cents), First Class (2 ounce or square at 70 cents) and First Class Postcard (at 35 cents.) The value will change when you select the denomination of postage you want.
Here’s a look at the shopping cart where you can verify the postage value and decide how many custom stamps you want. The stamps come on adhesive postage paper – 20 stamps to a sheet. There’s also a place for a promo code to be used. While they are frequently available, the one we tried did not work with the custom postage.
That’s pretty much it! Once you pay for the stamps, you’ll receive a proof in your email to approve. Once you approve, your stamps will be shipped directly to you – typically custom postage takes about 12 days from the day you approve your proof. There is a “delivery estimator” available too. Just plug in your order date below which is the date you approve the proof. Then, you’ll see the approximate delivery date and shipping costs based on your zip code.
Once you receive your stamps – time to have an addressing party. Invite your family, friends and your favorite calligrapher for a nice brunch! Your custom stamps are sure to be a hit at the party – and in your guests’ mailbox 🙂
