Should a 20 year old woman and a 45 year old man date?

Undressed: What’s the Deal With the Age Gap in Relationships?

I know this seems a little weird, and I thought I would post anon. I am currently dating a 45 year old man, although when we first went out he told me he was 36, but he was afraid I wouldn't "give him a chance" if I knew his real age. He doesn't look like it, and He doesn't look like it, and goodness knows he doesn't act like it. He's a good guy who genuinely cares about me, but is it logical?

Perhaps even that's the wrong word. Maybe I should ask, under the circumstances, what do you feel is wrong with a situation like this? Just asking for some friendly advice. Thanks everyone for answering. Might I add that this man mentioned marriage every day. I've felt very uncomfortable and he always wants to change me for, well he says "my" benefit.

He does care, but it's a little creepy because he is like a second dad. Thanks a lot everyone.

If you guys were to marry and expect a long relationship together, there can be some potential issues. First, because of the difference in age, there might be many things he's already experienced, learned, observed, have opinions on. You might, on the other hand, going through a learning process yet. This difference in learning levels causes problems over time.

Sex is a very important part of a good relationship. Imagine 10 years from now, when you're still in your prime 30s with strong desires and drive to make love, he would be in his mid to late 50s. Though he might want to partcipate, he might not be able to perform or satisfy you as much. You'll have to be a little selfish thinking about what this might mean to you. And you'll have to be thinking long term as well what this means years down the line.

Should a 20 year old woman and a 45 year old man date?

If you are still convinced he's the guy, why not? It's called robbing the cradle. I do know that a long time ago when women and men had set gender roles that it didn't matter the age difference. These days, I think it does. While I do believe that it is good for the man to be a little older than you, therefore, more mature than other men at 20 years old, I think that 45 is too much of a difference.

You will just have too much differences in generation gaps. This is really important. He would have been born in like the early s. If you do see though that you have similar values and thoughts and ideas about how to live your everyday lives then maybe it can work. But you have to think about whether you would be able to settle conflict among yourselves because of the generation gap you have between you. This relationship may be very hard for you. I would probably go for someone younger unless you can establish similarities between the two of you.

If there are things that you wouldn't be able to get along with or agree and compromise over There are marriage counselors that will tell you the same thing in terms of whether your relationship will work together or not. Some problems just can't be resolved. Lots of relationship psychology knowledge. What should matter most is whether YOU think there's something wrong.

Because you are asking this question, it seems as though you are worried about whether other people will disapprove of your relationship. There will be both supportive and unsupportive people in your life and if the negative people bother you, it will be hard for you to make the relationship work.

I don't see anything wrong with the age gap morally. Being realistic though, what happens if he wants to settle down? What if he wants children right away because he's already 45? Would you want to have children at such a young age? And what if he didn't want children? What if you get into a serious relationship, the subject of children comes up, and he decides he doesn't want children that late in his life? However, you stated that you two are just dating.
